We develop programs and workshops aimed at addressing the root of the problem of food insecurity. With these programs, we help increase family incomes to respond to changing risk or crisis scenarios, and we create partnerships with organizations and experts for training, encouragement, and direct assistance workshops for individuals and families in poverty. 98% of donations go directly to our programs.

Carmen Colón y Natanael

The Mochila Alegre program of the Puerto Rico Food Bank provides nutritious food and snacks to children at risk of food insecurity during all 52 weekends of the year, when school cafeterias are commonly closed. Currently, the Puerto Rico Food Bank supports more than 1,700 children each year through this program. Carmen and her grandson Natanael are current participants in Mochila Alegre. Every Wednesday, Natanael visits his little “store” to select healthy foods, completely free of charge, giving Carmen peace of mind and the certainty that he will have the nutrition he needs. Join our monthly donors program Amigos que Alimentan and sponsor a child from the Mochila Alegre program.

Wesley Pérez

The Alacena Universitaria program of the Puerto Rico Food Bank ensures that students at risk of food insecurity have access to nutritious meals while completing their studies. Currently, the program collaborates with more than 28 universities across the Island, impacting thousands of young people each year so that lack of food is not an obstacle to completing their college education. Wesley, a university student, participates in our program through the dining hall at the University of the Sacred Heart, “COMESA.” Thanks to the support this program provides, students like Wesley have access to daily meals that allow them to focus on their goals with energy and determination. With your monthly support, we can help more young people like Wesley achieve their academic goals. Join our monthly donors program Amigos que Alimentan.

Doña Delia

The Puerto Rico Food Bank’s Seniors Program serves more than 55,000 older adults each year, providing access to nutritious foods that help them manage their medical conditions. This effort ensures that our seniors can focus on their health. Doña Delia, a participant in the program, is an example of resilience and commitment. Thanks to this support, she can take care of her nutrition and continue being a pillar in her community. With your monthly support, we will continue expanding our impact on the quality of life of older adults in Puerto Rico. Join our monthly donors program Amigos que Alimentan today.
